The Intrepid Fox, formerly known as the Vinol's Cross was built in 1890 by John Vinol and bridges the two villages of West Hoathly and Sharpethorne in RH19.
Since the current owner, Paul Lloyd, bought the pub in 2004, it has been restored to show off its original Victorian features and has gained a reputation as one of the best gastro dining experiences in the area.
All dishes are made by the 'in house' chef using as much local produce as possible from the farm and sea and not from a factory. Even the ice cream is homemade. There is a choice of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes plus daily specials and lighter snacks at lunchtime.
Starters are £5-7, main dishes £10-18 and desserts £5-6. Monday night is an original pizza menu where you can choose from up to 10 different pizza topping combinations and if you cannot manage to eat a whole one, you can have it wrapped up for you to take home. There is a choice of locally sourced wines and ales including the local bitter Harveys .
In the summer enjoy 'al fresco' dining on the terrace overlooking the Bluebell Railway on the edge of Ashdown Forest or sit by one of the log fires in the winter.
